Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per bend Azure and Sable, on a bend Or five fusils conjoined Gules between a fleur-de-lis and a tower Yellow, masoned of the second. Attached below and on either side of the shield a Silver Gray scroll doubled and inscribed "A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE" in Gold.

Symbolism
Silver gray and golden yellow/gold are the colors traditionally associated with Finance organizations. The shield commemorates the unit's baptism of fire and World War II service. The gold fleur-de-lis on a blue field represents service in France while the castle refers to service in Germany and other areas on Central Europe. The fusils, suggesting the Finance Corps insignia of branch, on the gold bend are symbolic of the Battalion's five campaigns and represent unbroken service. The fusils are red to indicate service under fire.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 11 March 1993. It was amended to correct the description on 5 June 2003.

Rising from a wreath of the colors, Or and Azure, a demi-lion rampant affront Sable grasping a scimitar Or grip Gules.
